Vigil for Security

Cameras that understand, not just record.

Turn the cameras you already have into a private, AI-powered security system. Detections happen on the device — only the moments that matter reach the cloud.

🛡️ Edge-processed — your video stays local 🇨🇦 Hosted in Canada 🔓 No per-camera fees
Why most camera systems disappoint

Recording everything isn't the same as knowing anything.

🌬️

Alerts that cry wolf

Wind, headlights, shadows, a cat. Dumb motion alerts fire so often you stop trusting them — and miss the one that mattered.

☁️

Everything uploaded

Cloud cameras stream all your footage to someone else's servers, eating your upload bandwidth and your privacy.

💸

Priced like enterprise

Per-camera monthly fees and a proprietary box you can't touch, can't extend, and can't take with you.

How it works

The thinking happens at the edge.

AI runs on the device, in real time. The cloud only ever sees the events you'd actually want to keep.

Connect a camera

Flash a $10 ESP32-CAM, plug in a USB webcam, or point an existing IP camera at Vigil. No DVR, no proprietary hardware.

The edge does the detecting

On-device AI spots people, falls, zone intrusions and counts — locally, in real time, without streaming raw video anywhere.

You get clean, summarized alerts

Only real events reach your console, each with a snapshot and an AI-written summary. Email or SMS optional.

What you get

Detection with meaning, not just movement.

🚶

Detects what matters

Person detection, fall detection, zone & line crossing, people counting — not dumb motion.

🔒

Private by design

Video is analyzed on the edge; the cloud only ever sees the event and the keyframe you'd want anyway.

🧠

AI triage cuts false alarms

Every event is auto-summarized and scored, so you're not drowning in noise at 2am.

📷

Bring your own hardware

Repurpose old webcams and cheap modules. No vendor lock-in, no proprietary box.

🖥️

One console, every camera

Name each camera, watch live tiles, take a manual snapshot, and scroll the event timeline.

Custom checklists

Ask Vigil to watch for what's specific to your site — "door closed after 9pm?", "vest on the floor?" — with per-item alerts.

Where it fits

Built for small business & prosumers.

🏪

Retail & convenience

After-hours person alerts at the back door, people-counting at the front, fewer false alarms to chase.

📦

Warehouses & loading bays

Zone-intrusion and line-crossing on restricted areas; counts at the dock — without a guard watching a wall of feeds.

🔧

Makers & home labs

Open hardware, an API, and cheap ESP32 modules to build exactly the coverage you want.

🏢

Multi-site small business

Every location's cameras in one org-scoped console, with alerts routed to the right people.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need special cameras?

No. Vigil works with ordinary USB webcams and IP cameras. ESP32-CAM modules are supported too, for those who like to tinker.

Where is my video stored?

Video is processed on the edge and isn't uploaded wholesale. Only event snapshots and metadata reach the cloud — hosted in Canada (ca-central-1).

Does it work offline?

Detection runs locally on the device, so it keeps working if the link drops; events are stored and forwarded once you're back online.

What does it detect?

People, falls, zone and line crossings, and people counts — plus custom per-site checklist items you define.

Is there a per-camera fee?

No. You bring your own hardware and there's no per-camera monthly charge to get started.
